Certified Internal Audit Practitioner Course (CIAP)

Jointly Organized by Hong Kong Business School and the Association of Chinese Internal Auditors

Currently, there are few courses available on internal auditing, and most of them are taught in English, posing a learning barrier for students who are not proficient in English. The Association of Chinese Internal Auditors is committed to promoting internal auditing and aims to train more internal auditors for society. Therefore, the first-ever “Certified Internal Audit Practitioner Course” in Hong Kong is proposed, to attract students interested in pursuing a career in internal auditing or working professionals who wish to gain a basic understanding of internal auditing, providing them with a systematic approach to learning internal auditing.

Outcomes:

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the mission, definition, core principles, and charter of internal auditing.
• Clearly define the roles and responsibilities of management in internal auditing, and support the independence and objectivity of internal auditing.
• Master professional skills, competence, and due professional care, and engage in continuous professional development.
• Assess and manage fraud risks, and design and implement related control measures.
• Understand the fundamental principles and frameworks of governance, risk management, and control, and clearly define the roles of various stakeholders.
• Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls and understand the importance of compliance management.

Target Audience:

– Tertiary or college students interested in a career in internal auditing
– Working professionals who wish to gain a basic understanding of internal auditing (such as accounting practitioners, those involved in corporate governance, finance, compliance, etc.)

Course Instructor:

Dr. William Chen

Dr. Chen has 30 years of experience in financial and operational management in multinational corporations. He is a guest professor at Griffith University in Australia, Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, and The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong.

Dr. Chen holds a Doctor of Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Christian Studies. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong and Australia CPA, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA), a Certified Chinese Internal Auditor (CCIA), a Certified Management Consultant (CMC), and a Certified ESG Strategist (CESGS).

Dr. Chen is the Vice President of the Association of Chinese Internal Auditors, a council member of the Society of Registered Financial Planners, a former president of the Hong Kong branch of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and a financial expert for the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications. He is also a part-time lecturer at Lingnan University, the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs, and HKU SPACE.

Ms Clara Tsui

Ms. Clara Tsui is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs (FCPA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) with 15 years of internal audit experience. She holds a master’s degree in business administration and has worked in internal audit across industries including public utilities, automotive, telecommunications, retail and manufacturing, ports, and real estate development and management.

In addition to her internal audit experience, Ms. Tsui has extensive ESG reporting experience across various sectors such as property management, beauty salons, game development, printing, drilling contracting, digital marketing services, and wine production.

In terms of teaching, Ms. Tsui has 5 years of teaching experience at HKU SPACE, The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions Study Centre (HKFTU Study Centre), and secondary schools.

If the attendance rate of the students reaches 75%, they will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. The application fee for the certificate is $60.

<achieve at least 75% attendance + Examination>

Course Information:

• Number of Sessions: 8 sessions (7 class sessions + 1 exam)
• Tuition Fee: $3600
• Total Hours: 24 hours (21 hours of class + 3 hours of exam)
